Facing Demons
Book Review

I received Facing Demons by Marion Brownlie for review about three weeks ago. I finished reading it in a day as it was very interesting. It took me this long to write a review because I was busy with some other things and also I was dealing with some of my own demons. I may or may not expand on this in the future but seriously this book made me take a deeper look within myself and my life.

It is not some “how to guide” but it is a fascinating real life story of courage and perseverance. When you read it you learn many valuable lessons without being consciously aware of it.

You might find some of the things experienced by the author hard to believe but there is much more to life then we are able to perceive with our five senses. We can only see what we think of as true and there are many truths. We might not agree with the other truths out there but never the less they are very real for those who believe and experience them.

I found Marion’s life like a roller coaster full of ups and down with many exciting and unexpected twists. I so admire her ability to continuously pick herself up after so many downfalls. Personally I don’t think I can go through life the way she did and is still doing, it takes oodles of courage to face such difficult and life changing challenges. She is not afraid of change no matter how risky it looks. She listens to her heart to seek new experiences and visit exotic places.

Most of her relationships resulted in extreme heartache but it never stopped her from loving again. It takes a lot of faith and a very brave heart to do so. Many people would give up on love if they had relationships like Marion. I admire her for continuing to believe in love and also for learning that in order to love someone else you have to love and respect yourself first.

When I started to read this book I had to keep reading because I wanted to know what will happen next or how on earth she will ever get out of this hell of a situation. Her life will make you appreciate your own existence and how you must not merely exist but live life to the fullest no matter how difficult things may seem at the moment. She is the living example of the fact that there are no mistakes just lessons. If we learn the lesson that we are suppose to, we move forward otherwise the patterns just keep repeating themselves.

I am a big fan of Chinese medicine and as I found from this book it has really helped a serious physical challenge that the author was facing. I mentioned this because it might help if you or someone you know has an illness that cannot be helped by regular medicine.

In this review I didn’t go in to the details of the happenings of the author’s life as she describes them so marvelously in Facing Demons. I did that on purpose because I don’t want to give anything away about how things turned out for her. I don’t want to spoil it for you so you can read it for yourself and go on a journey that will be hard to forget.

I will end with these wise words from the author, “Nothing happens without some degree of risk. Sometimes doing nothing is greater risk. All change creates its own set of fears. I say feel the fear and do it anyway”.
